Bridging the technology gap
On 6 September, our Executive Chairman, Kuseni Dlamini, handed over a consignment of computer equipment to the University of Zululand’s Maputoland Development and Information Centre (MDIC) at Manguzi.
The much needed computers and servers will be put to good use in teaching, learning and research applications to benefit the surrounding communities. The equipment is earmarked to:
Provide community training and development;
Upgrade the workshop at MDIC;
Implement an integrated computer application for rural development; and
Provide public internet terminals for the community.
Thabo Leshoro, Chairperson of the MDIC was thrilled with the donation, saying: “RBCT’s donation is bringing about a great change in bridging the information technology gap as mandated by Government’s skills development agenda for community based organisations and the Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative of South Africa (Asgisa).”
Thanks to RBCT’s previous donation of computer equipment to Unizul, neighbouring Qhakaza High School achieved a 100% pass rate in their Information and Communication Technology module for 2005.
Their students, who were engaged in rebuilding the computers, are now teaching computer literacy at Jozini, Hluhluwe and Nongoma, and will soon be extending the network to Manguzi.
