Richards Bay Coal Terminal has a new chief executive officer
With the imminent retirement of current CEO, Terry Howarth, the RBCT Board has approved the following change, effective 1 July 2009.
- Raymond Chirwa (currently COO) will take up the position of Chief Executive Officer of RBCT; and
- Terry Howarth will remain an Executive Director of RBCT until his retirement date of 31 December 2009
Commenting on his appointment, Ray said, “I am very happy to accept the challenge of leading one of the single largest coal exporting terminals in the world and that the foundation laid down by Mr. Howarth will be built on as RBCT continues to excel in these difficult economic challenges.”
A qualified Engineer, Ray has 18 years’ experience as an electrical and mechanical engineer. He joined RBCT in 2004 as the General Manager Engineering. He was transferred to General Manager Operations in January 2008 before being promoted in July 2008 to Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining RBCT, Ray worked for ESKOM for 6 years.
Imogen Mkhize, the Independent Non-Executive Chairman of the RBCT Board of Directors wished Ray success as he takes over the new challenge and wished Terry well on his imminent retirement.
