Exports for the month of July at Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) reached a high of 5.93 million tons (69.4 million tons per annum) compared to 5.44 million tons (63.7 million tons per annum) exported during the same month in 2009. This great performance was achieved despite being affected by our labour strike, which lasted for 9 days. “This performance proves that as RBCT we are a reliable terminal, able to consistently offer a safe, reliable and efficient coal logistics service to all RBCT coal-exporting companies. The efforts and commitment of our employees during this month is commendable and it is through their commitment that RBCT is known for its efficiency and reliability,” says Raymond Chirwa, RBCT Chief Executive. Stocks as at month end remained at a good level of 3.19 million tons The 9-day strike had no impact on RBCT operations, which continued as normal. RBCT and the unions settled on 9.5% with a 3-year wage agreement.
