R3.6 million towards building of community school

2010/09/20

RBCT finally handed over Ntabeni Primary School to Ndindima community and Department of Education in an event attended by MEC for Education in KZN, Honorable S Mchunu, RBCT employees,  uMhlathuze Municipality Deputy Mayor Ms C Madlopha, Community members and other dignitaries on Saturday, 18 September 2010.

The School was started under a tree with 70 learners. There was no roof, fencing, ablutions, and equipment but only a dedicated teacher, willing learners and a very supportive community. Today the school has 13 classrooms, an administration block and multipurpose centre and accommodates well over 500 learners and this is indeed a huge milestone. RBCT has, over 10 years funded the building of Ntabeni Primary School with a total amount of R3.6 million. “RBCT’s role was crucial to the community. The company provided the school with furniture, stationery and other staff to assist in teaching. They also marketed the school to the extent that the school received donations from other companies” Mrs Magubane said.

Announcing the official handover of the school, Judith Nzimande called on the community to look after the school as an asset and to ensure it is not vandalized. “This is your school, look after it, protect it, and RBCT will always remain an interested stakeholder of Ntabeni school. We would like to be kept informed of the progress of the school on a regular basis,” commented Judith Nzimande.

KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC, Senzo Mchunu thanked RBCT in the establishment of Ntabeni Primary School. “It is the level of commitment seen at this school that brings a glimmer of hope that South Africa will one day be counted among the developed nations in the world” he said. The minister also received a donation of 12 mobile science labs from Richards Bay Coal Terminal to be donated to 10 rural schools
