RBCT breaks export record for the month of October

The month of October 2010 has seen RBCT break the monthly export record set in December 2005 at 7 237, 802 million tons (85.22 Mtpa), by exporting 7 380 737 million tons (142 985 tons more than December 2005), at an annualized rate of 86.66 Mtpa.
Year to date exports are at 52.09 million tons at annualized rate of 62.37 Mtpa.
Imports were 5 860 363 million tons, at an annualized rate of 68.62 Mtpa, bringing the imports to 53 036 117 year to date at an annualized rate of 63.33 Mtpa.
Total import and export tonnage handled in October 2010 at 13,375,649 million tons also exceeds the total of 13 241 150 Million tons handled in December 2005.
‘The above record truly indicates that the terminal is at 91 Million ton per annum rate. It is also pleasing that the above records have been achieved while we have ‘teething’ challenges, especially, on the new off-loading plant and while other machines were on planned maintenance’, said Raymond Chirwa, Richards Bay Coal Terminal CEO.
